Veden Civil War Map for the Cosmere RPG
The Veden civil war started after the assassination of King Hanavanar in 1173. While the war only lasted one year, the toll would be devastating; cities burned and whole princedoms eliminated while Veden fought Veden in brutal combat stoked by the Thrill.
For many game masters looking to homebrew, the Veden civil war is a solid place to launch a combat-centric campaign. I’ve created this map for a combat encounter located with a city in Jah Keved, but feel free to place it anywhere it fits within your campaign.

Map basics
- There is a grid and gridless version to download for free. The grid version is 75x75, but you can use the gridless to create whatever scale you wish.
- The map features a segment of a city wall that had been destroyed, allowing entry past the defenses, straight into a semi destroyed marketplace.
- There is a defensive perimeter around the breach, suggesting that the city's defenders attempted to (or are currently) attempting to hold the wall.
- There is an unbroken staircase up to the wall, which stands at around 8ft tall.
- There is a large section of the wall that is completely destroyed, spanning a gap of about 15ft. Debris litters the ground in and around the breach, making it difficult to pass through.
- There are two buildings to the south; a tavern style building and a standalone storefront. Parts of the buildings are damaged, and may be compromised in a storm.
- The tarred remnants of a market place still line the streets, abandoned when the fighting broke out.
Setting ideas
Use the following prompts to set this map up in your own campaign.
Under siege
The party is attempting to flee the city during an active siege. They arrive at the city wall which has been breached by the invading force. This provides the party the opportunity to assist in the defense of the city, or a means to slip out past the wall without having to go through a gate.
Post battle
The party is moving through a city burned by the fury of the civil war. What was once a lively market is now a charred husk of its former glory. The quiet streets can provide cover while attempting to sneak through the city, or an opportunity to plunder what wasn’t burned by war.
A war by another name
This map can be used as the aftermath of any war with the Stormlight Archive, not just the Veden Civil War.
