Video Transcript
The following video contains spoilers for the first arc of The Stormlight Archive. Soldier, Sergeant Bridgeman and Windrunner. The story of Teft is one of growth and forgiveness. While all of Kaladin's companions helped form him into the hero that we know and love, none had quite as meaningful an impact as Teft. From his tragic youth to his traumatic death.
Teft found the drive to continue to take the next step and become one of the most heroic Windrunners of this age. This video will follow the life and travels of Teft, taking a measure of the impact he had on the world of Roshar. We will follow Teft's journey throughout the first era of The Stormlight Archive, visiting only the plotlines where he had a significant role.
Teft was born in the town of Talinar in 1124 to a family of the sixth nahn. We aren't exactly sure where Talinar is located, but given Teft's military history, it's safe to assume that the town is located somewhere in the northwest of Alethkar in the Sadeas Princeton. One detail we gained from Teft is that the town always smelled like flowers.
Given that the climate becomes generally more vibrant in the lands of Jah Kaved and Herdaz, my guess is that Talinar is located somewhere in Alethkar's western border. When Teft was just a child, his parents joined an organization called the envisages, a cult dedicated to the return of the Knights Radiant. Members of the cult would visit Talinar on their travels through Alethkar and recruited residents of the town to their organization, including both of Teft's parents.
While Teft was likely too young to be a member of the envisages himself, his parents would teach them what they knew of the Knights Radiant. The power of Stormlight, and devotes. One of the philosophies of the envisages was that surge binding powers could be manifest if the life of the radiant would be truly threatened.
This would cause members to take extreme risks, putting their lives in danger in the hopes that it would bring about the lost arts of the Knights Radiant.
One such experiment would claim the life of Teft's mother. Sometime around 1130.
In 1132, Teft would report the cult to their local city lord. The heinous nature of the cult's crimes, along with their association with the taboo knights Radiant, resulted in a steep punishment. The city lord had all the remaining members of the cult executed, including Teft's father, who should have been spared execution because of his social standing.
Teft was left alone, with no family, isolated and feeling responsible for the deaths of his father and the other members of the visitors.
Most of what we know about the cult comes from Teft himself, but during a YouTube live stream, Sanderson suggested that the visitors were a splinter group of the Sons of Honor.
So, the next one from Nora says were the Sons of Honor, a splinter group of the envisages? Ah. RAFO. But, let's just say, you have the relationship backward. And the other one. Okay. And then what about the Selay envisages Kaladin saw while flying with the, flying with the storm? RAFO. Okay.
I find this answer odd. Gavilar would famously, would seek deals that would bring back the Knights Radiant but never found them, despite having the support of the Stormfather in contact, albeit unknowingly, with several heralds, why would the Sons of Honor struggle to find knowledge that their own splinter organization would have and freely share?
It feels like we're missing a big part of the story. The question about the relationship between the sons and the envisages, and the follow up question about potential, Radiants in Selay got RAFO’d. Unless there were details in Wind and Truth that I missed. This may still be a mystery to discover in later Stormlight Archive books.
Despite his losses, Teft would remain in Talinar until 1145, when he would join the army. Again, we don't explicitly know that it was Sadeas’ his army that Teft joined, but given where he ended up once he arrived to the Shattered Plains, it's safe to assume that he joined with Sadeas. This was in the same year that Sadeas, Gavilar and Dalinar would officially unify Alethkar into a single kingdom under Gavilar’s rule.
It would be a full 22 years between Teft joining the army in Gavilar’s assassination and the beginning of the War of Vengeance. During this time, Teft would have likely fought in border skirmishes and dealt with some of the smaller rebellion revolts happening around Alethkar. While not strictly confirmed, Teft would see quite a bit of action, gaining meaningful battle instincts, training, and perhaps even reaching the rank of sergeant.
Teft would become married at some point during his youth. But little is known about his wife other than she had passed away some time before Teft would arrive to the Shattered Plains. In 1167, Teft would travel to the Shattered Plains to fight in the war of Vengeance, to avenge the assassination of King Gavliar. Six years later, he would become a bridgeman and eventually be assigned to Bridge 4.
During his time in the Sadeas’ army, Teft would pick up a crippling addiction to Firemoss, a drug commonly used by soldiers to dull pain and forget the stresses of war. Teft's addiction to Firemoss would eventually lead him to be sent to the bridge crews. This addiction was a particular source of shame for Teft, and while we don't know exactly what the cause of his demotion and punishment were, he
explains that he felt as though he couldn't be trusted anymore.
Not only did Teft earn a punishment that sent him to the bridge crews, additional camp infractions would lead him to Bridge 4: the crew that was known to have the worst luck in the hardest conditions of all bridge crews. When Kaladin was assigned to Bridge 4 in 1173, Teft would be one of the most senior members of Bridge 4 having only joined a few weeks prior.
Like many of the Bridgeman, Teft would initially ignore Kaladin, assuming he would be dead along with the rest of the crew in a matter of days. When Kaladin took the position of bridge leader, Teft was the first person Kaladin was able to draw in the conversation by forcing him out of bed. As Kaladin made attempts to show the other members of Bridge 4 that there could be a better way to live their lives as Bridgemen.
Teft was one of the first to stop to consider Kaladin's actions. On their next bridge run.,Teft would assist Kaladin in his attempts at battlefield triage by finding wounded Bridgemen left out during the battle. Eventually, Kaladin would recruit Teft and a Horneater named Rock to help him find Knobweed sap, and antiseptic that Kaladin would use to help the other members of Bridge 4. Teft and Rock would become some of Kaladin's closest friends and most loyal supporters.
Teft’s support for Kaladin would take a massive leap forward when Kaladin would start having the men of Bridge 4 trained in the spear. Kaladin had been suspicious that Teft had an extensive military background, and put him to the task of leading the training exercises for the Bridgemen. While initially reluctant, Teft would quickly fall into the role. Eventually, Kaladin's meddling during bridge runs would earn him a stiff punishment.
He was strung up during Highstorm left for the Stormfather's judgment. Before retreating back to the barracks, Teft would give Kaladin a dun sphere, as they their said, to bring luck in a storm. The next morning, Teft and Rock would return to retrieve Kaladin's corpse to find him alive, but badly injured. Teft would notice that the spear he gave Kaladin before the storm was still dun.
Teft would be the first to realize that Kaladin was on the path to becoming a radiant. He would later test to see if Kaladin was truly able to absorb storm light, feeding at him to help recover his wounds supernaturally fast. In the days that followed, Teft would unknowingly set Bridge 4 on a path towards their destiny at the bottom of a chasm among dead soldiers and Parshendi.
Teft would teach Bridge 4 the first oath of the Knights Radiant.
Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
Talking about the Knights Radiant made most of Bridge 4 uncomfortable doctrine in the age labeled the Radiants as betrayers of humanity. Teft's knowledge of the Radiants, as well as his admittance that they were simply misunderstood, baffled the members of Bridge 4, but the conversation would help inspire Kaladin to begin planning an escape from the war camps.
This redoubled Teft's efforts to train Bridge 4 bringing the group closer together and turning them from Bridgemen to soldiers to a close squad. Teft would have the group adopt an old squad salute, arms crossed at the wrist, hands and fists. The salute of Bridge 4.
In the following weeks, Teft would make increasingly clumsy attempts to probe Kaladin for information about his nascent surge binding.
Teft would insist that Kaladin carry infused spears at all times, and would constantly ask if Kaladin was feeling strange, or if anything odd had happened to him lately. Finally, Teft would confront Kaladin directly. Teft attempted to strike Kaladin when he wasn't paying attention. With lightning fast reflexes, Kaladin would catch the strike, surprising even himself. After confronting Syl, Kaladin would seek Teft's guidance to understand what was happening to him.
Teft would teach Kaladin everything he learned from his parents and the envisages about Stormlight deals of the Knights Radiant and what little he knew about the power of search, binding. Teft would continue to train the men, pushing them towards being more than a simple bridge crew. While Kaladin gave the men inspiration to grow, Teft gave them the mold training them not only in the spear but acting like career soldiers.
This training would extend to Kaladin. Teft would push Kaladin to accept escorts when moving through the chasms and hold himself like a leader around the men, truly taking on the role of sergeant. Teft would confront Kaladin directly and push him to confront the uncomfortable realities of their situation.
Towards the end of 1173, Sadeas and Dalinar would launch a joint offensive against the tower, a massive plateau that would allow both the Parshendi and allied human forces to field a massive amount of troops.
The assault would end in disaster and a betrayal. Sadeas would flee, abandoning the Kholiny army on the tower. When Sadeas is called, the order to retreat one bridge would remain, led by Kaladin, Bridge 4 would return and rescue the remaining Kholiny forces. During the course of the battle, Teft took a wound to the arm, keeping him from following Kaladin and Moash into the heat of battle.
Instead, he would command the retreat of the Kholin forces, while Kaladin cleared a path for Adolin and Dalinar to pull back. Seeing Kaladin clearly use Stormlight to explain to the rest of Bridge 4 what he knew of Kaladin in his path towards becoming a radiant. Later, they would recruit Sigzil to help study Kaladin's ability and inspire the rest of the Bridge 4ward to hope that they could learn how to become Radiants.
Upon returning from the battle of the tower, Dalinar, grateful for his rescue by Bridge 4, would trade his own Shardblade to High Prince Sadeas for all of the bridgecrews. He would send them to his own camp and formally offer an opportunity to be set free or to join the Kholin Army. Many would accept the offer, including Teft and all of Bridge 4.
Kaladin, now commanding the Bridgemen, would grant Teft the rank of lieutenant, one of the highest ranks of dark eyes has ever received in the modern Alethkar military structure. He would be assigned the task of seeking sergeants and others fit for command from the remaining bridgecrews. This would be a difficult task. Despite being freed, most of the bridge men remained emotionally exhausted and unmotivated to seek the most from their new lives.
At Kaladin's direction, Teft would bring the best from each bridge crew into the chasms to train as Bridge 4 once had. This would help transform the beaten down Bridgemen into soldiers, providing the bridge crews with a model to look up to, and the Kholin Army, with the foundation of officers in training to help grow their ranks.
During this time, Teft and the other members of Bridge 4 would take on additional responsibilities in the Army.
This included guard duty of the Kholin family and going on patrols outside of the work camps. Despite their new ranks and responsibilities, Bridge 4 would still keep their name. Teft and the other members of Bridge 4 would encourage Kaladin to maintain the group under the bridge crew's name, rather than joining Dalinar's former elite's, the Cobalt Guard. During these early days acclimating into the ranks of Dalinar's army, Teft would constantly challenge Kaladin to reveal what he was becoming and take his rightful place among the light eyes running the army.
Despite his insistence, however, Teft would still be hesitant to bring about the full return of the Knights Radiant. He was always quick to remind Kaladin that despite his progress, he wasn't a full Radiant yet. Teft understood that the prejudice against the Radiants, while unfair, was still strong in the hearts of the people of Alethkar and beyond.
It's important to understand the role that Teft played in the Kholin Army in these critical months after serious betrayal. Most of the command structure of the coal and Army had died during the battle of the tower, and those that remained were spread thin. The bridgecrews increased Dalinar's numbers, but they weren't the disciplined careered soldiers that he had lost.
Teft's role as lieutenant was critical to the success of transforming the Bridgeman into soldiers. Kaladin would constantly give reports on Teft's observations about troop readiness and training needs. Kaladin was a figurehead and an inspiration to the army, but it was Teft's hard work and drilling that created soldiers. Unfortunately for Teft, not all was well. Despite the increased duties, Bridge 4 would actually have downtime that involved more than just disassociating in a corner while waiting for the next bridge run.
They were well paid and well cared for, with free time and money in his pocket, and likely due to the increased pressure of his new responsibilities. Teft would continue to abuse Firemoss
This would result in Teft occasionally disappearing during his off duty hours. At this stage, the members of Bridge 4 did not quite know the exact extent of Teft's addiction. Kaladin himself would even remark that the Bridgeman, having lives outside of their work and responsibilities, was a good thing, not knowing the destructive toll it would take on Teft.
Despite his addiction, Teft was the core of the bridge crew forces, and Dalinar's army training would continue in the war camps, evolving from small groups of future sergeants to entire bridgecrews.
In addition to these responsibilities, Teft in the other elite of Bridge 4, would train with Zahel in the use of Shardblades. Some weeks later, Kaladin would be arrested by Elhokar for publicly accusing Amaram of murder. While Kaladin was in prison, Teft would prevent the bridge crews from attempting to break him out, once again, providing stability to the group at a crucial time.
When Kaladin and Shallan would go missing in the chasms, Teft would step up and take over Kaladin's responsibilities, and even organize a watch to await Kaladin's return. Teft would accompany Dalinar and the rest of the Unified Forces of Alethkar on an expedition to confront the Parshendi forces in the center of the Shattered Plains. While out on campaign, Teft and the members of Bridge 4 would take on the role of honor guard to the Kholin family.
This often meant that they would stay out of combat, but at the Battle of Narrak it was hard to stay completely out of the fray. Teft would be assigned to safeguard Dalinar, and would be present when Kaladin would finally reveal himself as the Radiant after swearing the third ideal. Ever the dutiful Sergeant, Teft would provide Kaladin with a boon of Stormlight, allowing him to finally confront Szeth as a surge binder on equal footing.
At the apex of the battle, Teft would lead the remaining Alethi forces to the Oathgate at Urithiru. He would later lead an expedition back to the Shattered Plains to retrieve Kaladin and bring him to the Lost City of the Radiants. Upon being reunited, Teft and Kaladin would discuss taking the next steps towards becoming a Knight Radiant.
Teft would report that some of the members of Bridge 4 seemed to be glowing with storm light during the battle. Studying the accounts of Dalinar's visions, Teft would conclude that it must be possible for Kaladin to recruit and grow others to become Radiants as well. It is prophetic that Teft would give Kaladin this advice upon him, learning about the loss of additional members of Bridge 4.
Life at Urithiru, who would not start all that differently for Bridge 4. Teft would continue his duties training the men, guarding the Kholins, and going on patrol. Teft would be among the Kholin forces who would discover Sadeas body after his murder.
He would accompany Adolin and Shallan on their initial attempt to uncover the spren Shallan suspected was responsible for the strange murders occurring at your Urithiru at the time.
During the confrontation, Teft would show not only his own skill in command, but the development that the Bridgeman had undergone towards becoming professional soldiers. The way of the recent events, and the confinement of Urithiru to push Teft even further into his addiction of fire, mass, he would begin to miss active duty somewhat frequently, eventually commanding the attention of Kaladin.
This would come to a peak on a multi-day bender that Teft would spend in a daze on Firemoss. Despite being well paid, Teft would sell his own officer's jacket to pay for fire mass.
It's at this time that we get our first acknowledgment that Teft had bonded with a spren named Phendorana.
We first meet Phendorana as she and the other Honorspren observed members of Bridge 4 training with their nascent surge binding abilities. While the Honorspren were hidden from the training Bridgemen, Rock’s ability to see all spren would allow him to observe the watching spren. He would make an offering of Stormlight to them. We don't know that much about her history, but it's implied that she was a high ranking member of the Honorspren.
Syl would recall that she was among the Honorspren who reprimanded her for seeking out humans to bond. Teft would describe her as tenacious and cantankerous, but with a warm side. A bit like Teft himself,
it's no surprise that a high ranking Honorspren would seek to be bound to one of the highest ranking members of Bridge 4 outside of Kaladin himself.
As Teft was attempting to recover from another evening on Firemoss, Phendorana would implore him to remember the oaths that he had spoke in, urge him to progress towards the next ideal. This may be confirmation that Teft had either spoken their second ideal already, or would soon do so.
Later that evening, Rock and Kaladin would pull Teft out of the Firemoss den and confront him on his addiction to Teft.
This was a part of the cycle that he was condemned to abuse. Far from Us recover for a short time, apologizing and promising along the way, and then the eventual relapse that would start the cycle over again. He would begin using fire moss here and there almost immediately after. At this point, the training of Bridge 4 had evolved to the recruiting of potential Windrunners, with almost all members of Bridge 4 being squires.
Teft's training routine evolved as well. The new recruits, which even included Light Eyes, would be schooled on flight and combat formations for a new era of war. In order to spur this training along and to keep it well protected. Dalinar entrusted Jezriens Honorblade to Teft and Bridge 4 recovered from Szeth after his fight with Kaladin. The Honorblade would grant the powers of a Windrunner, allowing the recruits who had not fully learned to wield Stormlight and edge on their training.
Sometime after, Kaladin would depart for his mission to call an hour. Teft would be arrested for public intoxication on Firemoss. High Prince Aladar, who is overseeing policing at Urithiru, would quietly see Teft released and return to active duty. Later, Teft and the other members of Bridge 4 would serve as guards and representatives of the Windrunners, traveling to Thaylen City with the Council of Monarchs to plan for the assault on the city.
During one of their council meetings, Spanreeds would carry damning messages from around Roshar aimed to diminish the legitimacy of Alethkar in the intentions of Dalinar Kholin’s monarchy. Among the messages was a translation of the Ellis Stele, one of the oldest documents believed to be on Roshar. This document, written in the Dawnchant and translated by scholars, told the story of how humans had arrived on Roshar from Ashen, naming them the voidbringers of legend, not the Parshendi.
The coalition had been fighting against this would against the teachings of the Vorin Church, which held that humanity was fighting against the void bringers to reclaim their home. Learning that surge binding had a role to play, and now doubting the validity of their war against the singers, Teft and the other Windrunners would leave the island city and return to Urithiru through the oathgate.
Shortly after, Teft and the other members of Bridge 4 left the island city. The Battle of Thaylen Field would begin and your Urithiru would become under attack. An unknown assailant dressed in Teft's stolen officer's jacket would attack Bridge 4’s barracks, slaying Eth and wounding Rock and Besig. In the melee, they would steal Jezrien's Honorblade and open the Oathgate, allowing in Odium’s forces. Feeling the weight of his guilt,
Teft fled. Phendorana would appear and confront him.
Back at the Battle of Thaylen Field, Renarin would push towards the Oathgate. Despite the defeat of the thrill, the arrival of Kaladin, Adolin and Shallan and the retreat of Odium, the human forces were still at risk of defeat as fresh Singer troops arrived via ship. The only hope was to seek reinforcements from Urithiru, but their status was unclear.
Renarin would arrive at the Oathgate to find it surrounded by Fused, but at that moment an entire division of Alethi Troop would transfer to the city via the Oathgate. At their head, Teft.
After the battle, Teft and Kaladin would speak of the weight of the third ideal and the support that they would need to provide each other.
Once again, this foreshadows Teft and Kaladin's future
As a full Knight Radiant. Teft would take on Bridge 13 as his squires. Over the next year, Teft in Bridge 13 would participate in the conflicts cropping up around Roshar. These clashes with Odiums forces would lead many of Teft squires to swear oaths, promoting most of them to the Knights Radiant within a year.
During this time, Teft would begin to notice that Kaladin was struggling to cope with the events that had occurred during the mission to Kholinar where Elhokar was slain.
During a mission to Hearthstone to rescue villagers from singer occupation, Teft would confront Kaladin about his worsening condition.
Later, Dalinar would inform Kaladin that he would be relieved from his battlefield command, offering him pretty much any position he would prefer, so long as it wasn't on the front lines.
Kaladin would resolve to work for his father, now fully settled into Urithiru, and take up the role of surgeon once more. Teft would be offered and refused the role of company lord for the Windrunners. When the Alethi forces stationed at Urithiru would strike out to liberate Emul, Teft would choose to step down from his post and stay with Kaladin.
They would learn of a refugee searching for her lost uncle. Teft and Kaladin would find this man normal in the devotion of mercy, where those with illnesses of the mind were sent. The conditions they found Norrell in reflected the true lack of medical research on Roshar at this period of time. Norrell was kept in isolation and in the dark conditions that both Teft and Kaladin had experienced and knew firsthand wouldn't help the battle shock Norrell likely faced, bringing Norrell into the light would inspire Kaladin to begin helping others like him work through what he and Teft had, experience a new purpose for a new life outside of fighting. Soon after this revelation, Teft and Kaladin would notice that David, another member of Bridge 4 who had stayed behind, had gone missing. Their inquiries led them to a white House where they would meet with Rlain, the only Singer member of Bridge 4.
It is at this moment that the forces of Odium’s forces converted part of the tower's defenses and launched their invasion of Urithiru. Teft would immediately collapse as the tower began to suppress radiant powers instead of those of the Fused.
While Kaladin initially thought Teft's ailment was an effective fire of mass withdrawal, he soon realized that his powers were being suppressed. While Teft was completely knocked out by this effect, Kaladin was closer to the fourth ideal and therefore more connected to his powers, allowing him to withstand the brunt of the towers effects. This also seemed to affect Kaladin and Teft spren, since neither could be found as they fled the winehouse seeking aid.
Kaladin's journey during the invasion of Urithiru is a video on to itself, but for Teft's part he spent most of it unconscious, carried by Kaladin while he dodged patrols and sought aid from anyone able to still resist. Though he wasn't able to provide much in the way of direct support, Teft gave Kaladin something to defend, pushing Kaladin not to back down or surrender to Odiums forces.
Eventually, lift would be found and brought to heal Teft and a wounded Kaladin. Upon coming to Teft, would reflect on the growth he had seen in himself since swearing the third ideal. Waking like he did, Teft had initially assumed that he had relapsed on Firemoss. Upon discovering that this wasn't the case, Teft was finally able to admit to himself that his self-loathing was beginning to subside.
Seven months without touching Firemoss wouldn't make up for the years he had spent in a stupor, but he could start counting the years he spent with friends instead. Teft would finally accept that he was worth saving.
Teft would again inspire, Kaladin to action. Together, Teft, Kaladin, Dabid, Rlain, and Lift would resolve to aid the remaining Knights Radiant captured by Odium's forces.
When the moment came, Teft would attempt to sneak into a room where the captive residents were being held while Kaladin distracted the Pursuer. After a brief struggle with a regal lift, began to heal the unconscious Radiants, but it was almost immediately wounded by a Shardblade.
Among the unconscious Moash, awaiting the rescue attempt he assumed would accompany Kaladin's return.
After disabling Lift, Moash turned his attention on Teft
During their clash, Teft began to feel his bond with Phendorana grow. Teft was forgiven for his past, and he had grown to forgive himself. He felt himself getting closer to the fourth ideal as Moash swung his Shardblade in a lethal strike against Teft. It was met with a phantom shaft.
Teft was able to push past the tower's defenses, and some enough of his charred spear to block the blow. This was too much for Phendorana, who needed to recover from the exertions of being summoned in a last ditch effort. Teft would attempt to grapple Moash, but he could have never predicted Moash's counterattack using a dagger of anti Stormlight,
Moash stabbed Phendorana, killing her instantly. The shock of having his bond broken nearly disabled Teft. Teft's last words were for Moash, but they represented his journey from a boy who betrayed his family out of fear to the soldier played by addiction to the damned man, awaiting his fate, to a return to purpose, acceptance, and finally to a man forgiven.
Radiant.
Teft's death would lead Kaladin to the very top of Urithiru, where, in a last ditch effort to save his father, Kaladin would leap from the top, knowing full well it likely meant as doom. In a vision, Kaladin would speak with a memory of Tien who would help him understand the fourth ideal of the wind runners. The words that Teft was so close to speaking himself just moments before, I will accept that there will be those I cannot protect.
Teft was given a king's funeral. He was laid to rest in Urithiru, alongside a sculpture of Phendorana in a room dedicated to the other fallen Radiants. After the funeral, Kaladin would depart for Shinovar with Szeth, in part to keep the promise he made to help those struggling as he and. While Kaladin would think of Teft often during his travels to Shinovar, the last we truly hear of Teft comes from his killer
Moash. In the moment when Navani had sworn her ideal to become a Bondsmith, the light that blinded Moash formed a halo around her. The last thing Moash saw before being blinded was a halo of light around Navani, in which he swore he saw Teft spirit.
We know from other Cosmere stories that those individuals who are heavily invested when they are slain don't immediately go to the beyond.
It's certainly possible that Moash was just seeing things, his guilt taking physical shape, but it's also possible that Teft was there in that moment. Given how close Teft was to the fourth ideal, it's entirely possible that he had the strength to resist being pulled into the beyond to haunt Moash one more time. While this is possible, it means that Teft could still be out there somewhere, either as a cognitive shadow or having his cognitive aspect being returned to a physical body.
I think this is highly unlikely. It would have taken the intervention of a shard, or someone with access to enough investiture and skill to bring him back, neither of which is likely at this stage of the story. While I love the potential for characters to come back after death, sometimes a character's death needs to stick for it to mean something.
Teft's death. While one of the most gut wrenching parts of The Stormlight Archive was a major force behind Kaladin's ability to accept that there was people he couldn't protect. For now, this is the end of the life and travels of Teft, from a guilt wracked child to one of the greatest heroes on Russia. Teft will be forever remembered as one of the best characters in the Cosmere.
