Recap from day 1 of Dragonsteel Nexus 2024
Wow, what a day. I am barely awake while I type this out, so forgive my briefness. Today was absolutely amazing across the board: more awesome people, great panels, and getting my copy of Wind and Truth!
One important note: I am not going to discuss the announcements and spoiler questions revealed today. You’ll see it eventually, and I’ll allow you to seek it out at your own pace.
Here are some of the highlights of the day!
Great panels
Seeing folks that I’ve been watching on YouTube or hearing on podcasts take the stage to chat about Cosmere lore is so much more fulfilling than I expected it to be. Shout out in particular to the ‘Butterfly Effect: Disrupters of the Cosmere’ session. I have been a big Jasonioan fan for a bit now, and seeing him take the stage was fantastic. They are recording that session, definitely check it out. Someone asked a "what if" scenario similar to the Kaladin article I wrote very early on, but with a completely different take.
I also watched a panel about character development with Fonda Lee - again, an amazing person,
Cosplay
Folks have been putting in the work year. I will let my pictures speak for themselves.
Great fans
Another day of meeting more awesome people, handing out cards (hello if I met you in person!) and chatting about the Cosmere. Shout out to one person in particular: Nick. He gifted me a set of bookends he made in his home workshop (pictured below) - the lighting in the hotel room does not do them justice. I will take some additional photos to post later once they’re on the shelf at home. Thank you so much Nick, I hope you have safe travels after the show.
Art Art Art
I got some amazing art from several artists on the show floor, in particular Ashley Coad and Jessica Liu. You’ll have to bear with me for those pictures; I want to share them framed and on my wall. If you’re not familiar with their work, check them both out.
Wind and Truth
Of course the pinnacle of the day’s activities was getting my hands on Wind and Truth. I was able to secure book number 102 from my efforts Wednesday in line. The whole process was seamless and, as usually, the Dragonsteel team and volunteers did an amazing job keeping everything running smoothly.
Continuing to write this is less time that I have to read, so I am going to go do that. I will still have plenty to share tomorrow, so stay tuned!
