Chasm Battlemap for the Stormlight RPG
To celebrate this new expansion to the Cosmere and to prepare for sessions I'll be DMing myself, I wanted to start throwing together battle maps and other supplementary materials for my future campaigns and one-shots.
Harken dungeon masters of the Cosmere - a new tabletop role-playing game approaches: The Stormlight RPG by Brotherwise Games. While we don't (yet) have a ton of details on this new RPG, the quality of Brotherwise's previous games, coupled with Brandon's commitment to making a great addition to the Cosmere, means that there will be a lot to love about this new game.

I want to share these resources, for free.

How to use these maps
Download the version of the map you wish to use and either print it out or upload it to an online RPG tool like Roll20.

Scale
The area around this plateau cluster is intended to be roughly 100 x 75 ft. In the grid version, each square is a 5x5 ft.
Height varies, but it is likely some 50 to 100ft to the chasm floor below.
Setting
This series of plateaus, covered in small rock buds, has a series of permanent bridges and is likely located somewhat close to a high prince's war camp.
The central plateau is the crossroads between two winding paths and is surrounded on all sides by chasms that would be difficult for a Parshendi to jump.
On all sides of the plateau cluster, sheer drop-offs to the chasm below are large enough for a chasmfiend to crawl up, making it the perfect place to pupate.
Encounter ideas
We're not 100% sure when the Stormlight RPG will occur, but the map can be used in any scenario where the party may find themselves on the Shattered Plains. Here are some ideas.
1) Ambush during a scouting mission: The party has been assigned to scout out ahead of an assault and finds themselves ambushed by one of the last plateaus supported by permanent bridges.
2) Burn the bridges: The party has been sent to destroy some of the permanent bridges on the Shattered Plains. Are they trying to slight a high prince? Are they working the Parshendi?
3) Save the caravan: A column of smoke rises up from a plateau far off in the distance. The party arrives to find a caravan ablaze on top of a large chasm.
4) Secure the gemheart: A chasmfiend has been spotted on a plateau! Rush to secure the gemheart before the Parshendi does.
Environmental Ideas
Here are some additional ideas on what might happen in an encounter on a plateau.
1) Forced off the edge: Combatants may want to force their foe to the plateau's edge and send them to the chasm below.
2) Destroy the bridges: Bridges are made of strong wood and are reinforced to survive storms, but a determined force could cause them to collapse, preventing escape or backup from arriving.
3) Leap the chasm: Some may be able to cross some of the tighter chasm distances with a stormlight-enhanced leap or through a powerful warform running jump.
More to come
As I continue to prepare for my Stormlight RPG campaign, I will share the maps, resources, and encounter ideas I come up with. Sign up for my newsletter if you'd like to see more!
